How to Maximize the Results of your Skincare Routine

Through many successful and transformative virtual consultations with clients all over the world, I've realized that people so far away from one another can share many things in common when it comes to their skincare journeys. Our skin is very unique and has to be treated as such, simply copying your besties routine won’t get you the results you deserve and neither will trying every product on the market at random. Ive put together a comprehensive list of steps needed to maximize the results of every skincare routine no matter the condition or concern, these steps are my personal way of making sure my clients leave their session confident and on the track to success with their skincare routines.

  1. Take inventory of your current skincare regimen

Product hoarding is one of the main issues I run into when taking new clients. Its seems that people have taken up the habit of trying any and everything they can get their hands on in hopes of achieving “clear” and perfected skin. You'll want to gather all of the products you currently use daily/weekly/monthly and line them up, making a list can also be helpful. Once you can see what you are working with it’ll be much easier to move through the next steps and determine what you don’t actually need at all.

2. Identify your CURRENT skincare concerns

It is true that you can’t solve a problem if you never identify what the issues are in the first place. Addressing your concerns means first actually knowing what they are, this is also the only way that you will be able to choose the correct types of products. For example, many clients I treat deal with post inflammatory hyper pigmentation (dark spots due to acne) and black heads, which is a form of acne. Identifying those issues by name helps guide education on how and why it happens as well as proper treatment.

3. Routine x Concerns = Results

It is pretty simple mathematics, your current routine x your current concerns will help you decide what products are necessary and what products can be tossed aside. The main question you want to ask yourself in this step is “given my current skin concerns, are my current products directly addressing those concerns?’ Its like when someone says a product “works” for them, if you can’t pinpoint how a product is actually giving you a specific result it most likely is not and therefore should be removed from your routine. A successful skincare routine consists of products that specifically target your problem areas and show visible signs of improving those issues.

4. Get specific about your routine

Once you’ve cleared space in the medicine cabinet for more productive products, its time to start considering your options. Choosing the correct products can be tricky with so many things on the market, help in this area is one thing my virtual consultation clients appreciate the most. Being confident in the products you’re using is just as much apart of the process as the work that said products are going to do.

5. Quality over Quantity

A successful skincare routine does not have to be an extensive one. Your routine should reflect your concerns but also take into consideration your lifestyle. Not everyone has the time or the desire for a 10 step routine, the quality of a product will always out weigh the quantity of items in a single routine. More is not always better, and adding in additional products should be done gradually with careful consideration of the purpose of that addition.

6. Consistency

Last but certainly not least we have consistency. There is no such thing as a 7 day program for clear skin, it takes patience and consistency to reach any goal, corrective skincare is no different. Being consistent with a regimen has truly been one of the main factors of success for my clients, this is know for sure. Not all skincare concerns are treated equally or all at the same time, depending on the person there may be a need for a slow build up of products targeting specific concerns. With the right help though, you can be sure that the journey will be worth the trip in the end.
