3 Ways to Use Your Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
Dermalogica is one of my favorite brands to suggest to clients during virtual sessions and use in my own personal skincare routine. One of their well known exfoliating products is the Daily Microfoliant, the microfoliant is a rice based exfoliating powder that utilizes enzymes and salicylic acid to gently buff away dead skin cells to give skin a more polished look! White tea and Licorice Root are also used in this formula to help brighten uneven skin tone, making this a great product for someone in search of a weekly exfoliant that caters to brightening, smoothing and oil control.
Notice I said weekly. Despite the name of the product its wise to keep in mind that for many people, daily exfoliation can have some negative effects. The skin already goes through a natural cycle where it sheds its outer most layer in a process called desquamation. By using chemical and/or physical exfoliators we help speed up this process however over exfoliating can lead to dehydration, inflammation and an increase in breakouts. Typically 2-3x per week is sufficient for normal to oily skin types and can even be decreased for those who dealing with active acne and other skin sensitivity.
Daily usage aside, there are 3 different ways you can get the most out of your Dermalogica Microfoliant
A comprehensive guide to understanding five fundamental steps and creating the perfect beginner friendly daily skincare routine. With this Ebook you will gain the necessary knowledge needed to make educated beauty purchase and address specific skincare concerns!
1. Use as a gentle scrub after cleansing
This is the way Dermalogica suggests use of the product, mixing it into very wet hands until it creates a creamy texture before applying to the skin. Make sure that you are using enough water when mixing to avoid an abrasive scrub.
2. Cleanser + Exfoliation combo
If you prefer a more condensed skincare experience, mixing the Microfoliant with water and your cleanser of choice is a great way to create and quick an easy 2in1 step that still gives the same results. This will also help give a bit of a buffer for those prone to skin sensitivity or if you wish to cleanse for a longer length of time.
3. Make a mask out of that thang!
After using your hands to gently scrub with the enzyme exfoliant, you can let it sit on the skin for up to 2 minutes as a mask for an extra smooth, extra polished look and feel that I just love. Using this product as a mask is nice because it requires no excess manipulation while still reaping the additional benefits!
Either way you choose to use your Daily Microfoliant, remember to follow up with some form of hydration on damp skin, a nice serum if thats your prerogative, moisturizer and always SPF during the day!
