The Most Common Skincare Mistakes People Make Daily

Beauty as a whole seems to come with a lot of rules, some of them that make sense and some that just sound plain old made the hell up. I want to remind you that when it comes to caring for your skin generally there aren’t too many set rules, you can feel free to do what you please! There are however certain guides and tips that will help you achieve your skin goals faster and easier, remember that nothing is absolute law but making these 4 changes in your routine will most certainly not leave you disappointed

The first tip is for my exfoliating babes, I see you! Skin all glowing and even, shining bright like the diamond you truly are. I also see you using those exfoliating products EVERYDAY!

Over exfoliation is one of the biggest causes for inflammation, dehydration and overall skin irritation and the really messed up part is that it can be avoided so easily. Even when products are marketed as safe for daily use that isn’t always a green light to use them daily, in fact most people only need to exfoliate 1-3 times per week! The process of shedding skin cells naturally is called desquamation and this happens generally about every 28 days, from there new cells are born in the deeper layers of skin to replace the old.

The skin is the largest organ on our bodies, it knows what to do so think of exfoliation as a way to help the process along not completely do the job alone.

If you are a lover of makeup this next one is for you and only you. Step away from the makeup wipes! Just hear me out.. proper makeup removal is extremely important to your skins health, usually after a night of sleeping in foundation you’ll wake up to some random pimple not to mention old makeup caked onto your pillow cases that won’t mix well with your clean skin the next time you go for a nap. Replacing your makeup wipes with a cleansing balm is the ultimate upgrade, its a more gentle and less skin drying alternative. Wipes can also be very abrasive which isn’t good for skin that is prone to breakouts, they can also contain ingredients that don’t promote moisture retention.

Maintaining healthy skin means first having a healthy barrier, double cleansing first with a balm and then following up with a gentle daily cleanser will ensure you’re removing all traces of makeup while keeping your skin delicate moisturizer barrier in tact!

Did you know that applying skincare products on dry skin is less effective? Its true, applying your serums and moisturizers onto dry skin isn’t allowing them the chance to penetrate the skin as well and thus making them less effective. Consistency with skincare is important as we all know but applying products incorrectly will prolong the results you’re looking to see no matter how consistent the application. Instead alway apply serums, essences, moisturizers and sunscreen onto skin that is damp and freshly cleansed

If you must dry your face a bit, use a thin facial cloth or paper towel to lightly tap away excess water and then immediately moving onto the hydrating step in your routine. This way a skin is well prepped to receive the benefits of the other products.

This last tip is just as important as the last step in everyone skincare routine, yes im talking about sunscreen. As proud as I am of us collectively deciding that we are riding the sunscreen train all the way to freedom, ive noticed that many of use are not reapplying sunscreen through the day.

Initial application is not enough to keep skin protected all day, especially when in direct sunlight. Reapplication should happen at least every 2 hours, sound unrealistic? I know. But try! Ive found reapplying with a sunscreen mist or spray has been easier as still as effective for my life, and im able to feel like a better person knowing i’ve done my sun protection due due diligence

Try out these small changes in your daily routine and let me know how things are working out for you!
